This piece was made at our Mbarara workshop, where artisans gather to weave, bead and paint together. Many learned their craft from their mothers and grandmothers, and now pass it on to younger women joining our programme. A single piece like this can take anywhere from two days to two weeks to complete.

Caring for your piece
Keep woven and wooden pieces away from prolonged direct sunlight and moisture. Dust baskets with a soft dry brush. Wipe leather with a slightly damp cloth and condition occasionally. Calabashes are decorative — avoid soaking them in water.
