About Us
A social enterprise in Mbarara, Uganda — where tradition, craftsmanship and women's empowerment meet.
Experience
Rooted in Tradition, Crafted by Hand
Home of Africa Crafts began with a simple belief: that the skills passed down from mothers and grandmothers in Western Uganda deserve a place in homes around the world — and that the women who hold those skills deserve a fair income from them.
Today we work with artisans in and around Mbarara who weave sisal and papyrus, string glass beads, stitch leather, carve wood and paint calabashes. Every piece is made by hand, in small batches, from natural materials — so no two are exactly alike.
Women-led
Our artisans set their own hours and earn fairly for every piece.
Natural materials
Sisal, gourd, leather, wood and glass beads — sourced responsibly.
From Raw Fibre to Finished Treasure
Most of our pieces take days — sometimes weeks — to complete. Here's the journey each one takes.
Gather
Sisal leaves are harvested, stripped and sun-dried; gourds are grown and cured; wood is sourced from fallen trees.
Prepare
Fibres are dyed with natural and fast colours, beads are sorted, and leather is cut and conditioned.
Craft
Artisans weave, bead, stitch, carve and paint by hand — following patterns that carry generations of meaning.
Finish
Each piece is checked, finished and packed with care before it travels to its new home.
Our Values
Authenticity
Genuine African craftsmanship — never mass-produced, never imitated.
Empowerment
Creating income, skills and opportunity for girls and women.
Sustainability
Natural, renewable materials and low-waste production.
Quality
Pieces made to be used every day and treasured for years.
Kind Words
The fruit basket is even more beautiful in person. You can feel the care that went into every stitch.

I ordered a beaded necklace as a gift and it arrived quickly, beautifully wrapped. My sister loves it!

Great quality, and I love knowing my purchase supports women in Mbarara. I'll be back for the wall baskets.
