This lidded basket is coiled by hand from natural sisal and deep purple dyed fibre, stitch by stitch, in the traditional peaked "agaseke" shape.
The bold zigzag pattern runs all the way up to the pointed lid. Use it to store jewellery, keys, sweets or small keepsakes, or simply display it as a centrepiece. Because it's handmade, the pattern and size vary slightly from basket to basket.
Your purchase supports fair income, skills training and education for the girls and women who make our crafts.
This piece was made at our Mbarara workshop, where artisans gather to weave, bead and paint together. Many learned their craft from their mothers and grandmothers, and now pass it on to younger women joining our programme. A single piece like this can take anywhere from two days to two weeks to complete.

Caring for your piece
Keep woven and wooden pieces away from prolonged direct sunlight and moisture. Dust baskets with a soft dry brush. Wipe leather with a slightly damp cloth and condition occasionally. Calabashes are decorative — avoid soaking them in water.
